Trauma Informed Care

The West Virginia Hospital Association (WVHA) is supporting efforts to advance awareness and best practices in trauma-informed care for patients who have experienced miscarriage, abuse, neglect, or other traumatic or highly stressful events. Trauma-informed care recognizes the importance of addressing a patient’s emotional and psychological needs alongside their physical care and promotes compassionate, evidence-based approaches across healthcare settings.

Throughout the year, WVHA will share available resources and host educational events where members can explore the principles and practical application of trauma-informed care across healthcare settings. Members will have opportunities to learn from subject matter experts, peer institutions, patient advocacy organizations, and real-world patient experiences. These efforts will examine opportunities to improve care delivery and explore leadership strategies that foster psychological safety, resilience, and supportive workplace cultures.

WVHA will continue to identify and share tools, education, and practical resources to assist hospitals and health systems in advancing trauma-informed approaches that support patients and families with compassion, dignity, and respect.
